This conversation, hosted by Dr. Jen Maidrand, will explore conquest narratives in the Hebrew scriptures and some of the fraught ways religious communities engage with them. It will introduce participants to the ancient context(s) of these stories and offer tools for interpreting conquest narratives through ancient and contemporary lenses. This conversation will include some structured time for communal reading, wrestling, interpretation, and reflection on these texts. We will especially consider the relationship between conquest narratives and settler colonialism, and how indigenous, Palestinians, and Jewish liberationist perspectives might help us broaden our understanding of these biblical texts.
